Dr Munjed Al Muderis
World Leader in Osseointegration
Dr. Al Muderis is a world leader in "osseointegration" that changes the lives of all amputee patients, allowing them to focus on their destiny instead of their journey. In this talk, Dr. Almuderis explains how he is now at the top of his "Wheel of Fortune" and how he can now help people who are at the bottom of it. Munjed is an Australian-trained orthopedic surgeon and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame School of Medicine, Sydney. Born in Baghdad, he fled to Australia as a refugee and embarked on an arduous journey to become an orthopedic surgeon when he was released from a detention center on August 26, 2000. Munjed's ambition to become a world leader in osseointegration surgery began as a child watching the movie "Terminator."
How to combine robotics with humans? This passion inspired him to develop and expand this technology for amputees, to enable mobility, improve comfort, reduce pain and facilitate a better quality of life. To date, Munjed has helped hundreds of amputees move and function with greater ease, comfort, and control. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
